Hello and welcome to cmns 253 - Society and new media.
I hope you've all managed to get your blogs up and running - if you're here, most likely you have. In any case, I'm going to be keeping a blog along with you this semester, and using it for much the same purposes. I'll also be posting useful links - some are there already - to good online sources for various themes and issues in this course. Feel free to use these as a research base for your assignments.
I should note that, as you may have gathered from the first class, this course is a lot of work - but it's not so bad if you keep on top of it. And a lot of it is not the usual kind of work you'd be doing in other academic courses, so at the very least it may be a change from the usual. I do hope you enjoy it.
It's also a particularly exciting semester for me, since I am expecting the arrival of my first child towards the end of November...a crazy time. We're not sure if it's boy or girl, but we have several names to cover both ends, just in case. You can decide for yourself which you like best
Boys names
1. Ephraim Noah
2. Silas Avery Isaac
3. Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus
Girls names
1. Clytemnestra
2. Frances Augustine
3. Noelle Olivia
I'll tally the votes, though the winning name will not necessarily end up on the birth certificate.....
In any case, I'm looking forward to engaging with your blogs over the course of the semester - in the meantime, good luck.

Boy name: #2 (Silas Avery Isaac)
Girl name: #3 (Noelle Olivia)
the boy's name has GOT to be Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus Hamilton
as for the girl's name.. i like Clytemnestra Hamilton.. but where's the middle name for that one?
cheers Ted,
and congratulations...!
There is really only one true name for your child Ted...
Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus.
Poetry in motion.
I really like Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus for a boy and i wish him luck learning how to spell that sucker out in kindergarten. For a girl you gotta go for noelle and hopefully people won't sing Noel to her every christmas.
Silas just sounds cool, my votes for that, if its a she-hamilton i humbly suggest noelle
I speak from experience when I say that giving your child an original name can both be a blessing and a curse...
Although it ensures your child is almost never a recipiant of the dreaded 'indentified by the first letter of the last name' phenomenon that occurs when two or more children of the same name appears, it also ensures teachers, friends, and indeed everyone to ever gaze upon your child's name in print as some sort of cruel joke and assume your a drug user...
My fifth grade teacher used to call me Hop-a-long...
Anyways, I recommend Noelle Olivia or Silas Avery Isaac (becasue people will shorten it to SAI, and that's badass!)
At least you didn't try to call it @ or Gaylord or Jebadiah
Any stories behind any of these names?
I'm going to have to go with Silas Avery for a boy. For a girl, Noelle Olivia, Clytemnestra is a little too cruel for a child to have to deal with growing up haha. Congrats, Ted!
Oh it's got to be Frances Augustine for a girl, and Tiberius for a boy. Frances has always been one of my favourite names and Tiberius simply rocks.
Hi and congrads!
I choose Silas Avery Isaac and Noelle Olivia... I think those are the coolist names out of all of them. The others are too long to say and spell and you want your child to have a coooooolist name ever! and I have no idea where you got Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus? lol ok bye!
Congratulations Ted!
I think Silas Avery Isaac or Frances Augustine sound really beautiful.
